Former West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday dismissed all speculation about forming a new political party. Amid recent political developments and social media discussions, rumours had emerged that Ghosh was planning to leave the BJP and start a new political outfit, with claims that the name of the new party had also been finalised.
While out on his regular morning walk, Dilip Ghosh stated, “I have built this party. There is no need to form a new one. I am a devoted BJP soldier.” He added, “After 70 years of struggle, this party has taken shape, and it is this party that will fulfil the dreams of the people of Bengal.” His comments came in direct response to the growing speculation over his political future.
Ghosh has been under the spotlight in recent weeks following his visit to the Jagannath Temple in Digha and a meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. These developments had triggered speculation regarding his next political steps. However, his latest statement clearly denies any such plans to part ways with the BJP or float a new party.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Ghosh was not given a ticket from his previous constituency Bardhaman-Durgapur. He instead contested from a different seat and lost to Trinamool Congress candidate Kirti Azad. Ghosh had previously served as the state BJP chief during a period when the party expanded its base in West Bengal and achieved notable electoral success.
